The 4th International Plant Phenotyping Symposium (4IPPS) organized by CIMMYT and IPPN took place in El Bataan, Mexico, on 13 to 15 December 2016.

Das 4. International Plant Phenotyping Symposium

DPPN was represented by the directors U. Schurr (FZJ) and Th. Altman (IPK) and several speakers introducing a range of current activities and suitable new technological methods and equipment. The meeting attracted over 200 participants, enabling close interaction and discussions between all participants and specifically addressing the latest developments in plant phenotyping.

Das 4. International Plant Phenotyping Symposium

The symposium focused on: 1) advances in plant phenotyping technologies to explore the frontiers of what can be sensed remotely and other technological breakthroughs; 2) adding value to phenotypic data to review how phenomics and genomics can combine to improve crop simulation models and breeding methodologies, such as genomic selection; 3) phenotyping for crop improvement to consider the application of phenotyping technologies for crop improvement, breeding, husbandry, and estimating the productivity of agro-ecosystems.

Das 4. International Plant Phenotyping Symposium

Prior to the symposium, the IPPN Root Phenotyping Working Group held a satellite meeting, which addressed available technologies, models, and case studies demonstrating the increasing demand for root phenotyping.
